Free Online Car Insurance Quotes – A Mixed Bag
If you need new car insurance, it's likely you aren't looking forward to going into a car insurance office to discuss your needs. Instead, you can check online at car insurance sites – most offer free quotes. Is this a good thing? Well, yes and no, depending on how you look at it. There are pros and cons to getting a free car insurance quote online. Let's take a look.
Super Choice – Free Online Quotes? The Best!
Car insurance is something that can be time consuming to change. Going into an agent's office can be very inconvenient – the agent seems to move slowly, and want to go over every bit of the agreement with you, and because the agent will be at work all day, he has no incentive to work faster and get you out of his office and back on the road. Getting your quote online has the advantage of being much quicker! And more convenient – it can be done whenever you want to do it, even in your robe and slippers by the light of the fire if you want. As long as you know what type of coverage you want – suppose you're happy with the coverage you have and just want to compare prices (apples to apples type of comparison) then you'll be fine going online to get a free car insurance quote. But are these things truly just positive?
Online Car Insurance Quote – Even Free, Not Worth It!
On the other hand, there are definite downsides to the free online quotes. Car insurance sites require a lot of information about you in order to give you an accurate assessment. First of all – once you've given your information to the company's site online, you will get more email and telephone calls. Many (if not all) of the online companies keep that information, and will either call you themselves or sell the information to another company.
Also, most people don't really understand car insurance. The different options are confusing – liability? Comprehensive? Collision? What do we really need, and even more, at what level? These options – thoroughly a puzzle to most of us – are things agents deal with all the time, day in and day out. They are very willing to sit down and explain them to anyone, even if you don't end up getting coverage through their company.
Ever heard the expression “garbage in, garbage out”? It applies to free online car insurance quote sites, too. If you don't put in accurate information, you're not going to get a good, honest, quote back. Be sure the information you give the site is correct, and if you check more than one online car insurance site for a free quote, but sure you give them all the same data so that you will get honest quotes to compare. Frequently Asked Questions...
Car Data Finance telephone call?
I've just had a phone call from a company called (something) Car Data saying that they need to take the reg of my car, as they have someone wanting to buy it. Apparently these people want to purchase it via finance and this company need to do a HPI check.
To be honest this sounds really dodgy, i asked the guy to call me back at 5.
has anyone else had something similar?
sorry i'm being dumb
my car is for sale, advertised on trade it and the fiatforum.
it was to my mobile phone and came up private call.
Thank you Colin.
In the photograph on the trade it i have masked the reg. i wasnt about to give this person anything until i had checked them out properly.
I havent had any phone calls from anyone about the car, even if they would have rung me and said they were interested but needed finance.
It all seems so dodgy - thanks for the replies!
Answer:
It's sensible to do an HPI check before buying a car, but doing it this way around sounds odd. Why the h*ll would someone want to check it before they've even seen it, and. more to the point, why would anyone try to arrange finance on something they've not seen?
I've got my doubts too. I wouldn't disclose any information, your car may well be about to be cloned.
