How to Install the Computer Drivers?

Only when supported by a correct driver can we really make the best use of a hardware device and play out its greatest potential. If new drivers have already been well prepared, here we start to learn about how to install the drivers.

When you install drivers, you should firstly set up the drivers for each device of your motherboard, next for the built in devices like sound card and video card, finally for some peripherals like mouse, keyboard and USB storage and so on. Besides, you’d better unload the older drivers when setting up new ones.

Generally Windows system offers us two ways to unload drivers: one is to perform this action in add or remove programs in the Control Panel; the other way is to uninstall them in Device Manager sheet. Additionally, you’d better update the DirectX tool to the latest version before driver installation, or else it may result in frequent illegal operations in the system, if even worse, the hardware device may not be correctly recognized or installed, or your computer may go dead.

Usually in Windows system there are two approaches to set up drivers.

  1. One is the full automatic installation. There is a setup wizard when you implement a Setup.exe file. Presently, all driver makers’ official releases take this method. You only need to follow the step by step instructions and click several buttons to complete the installation.

The other method is to install drivers manually through the driver program’s inf file in the Device Manager, which is often used by some advanced PC users when setting up some modified drivers.

Manually installing your drivers has possible risks. When the drivers are not compatible with your hardware devices, if you take the first approach, usually the computer would have a warning message and automatically stop the installation; if you take the second method, the computer also would have warning information, but you can still go on, however if do so that would have a severe result. For example, your video card may have a display problem, your sound card may have noise, what is worse, and you would probably be unable to access the system. So if system prompts, you should not set up the driver forcibly.

However, if you want to minimize the setup errors and save your valuable time, you can download the third party software like Driver Checker to help you. This easy to use driver manager tool can not only find the compatible and up-to-date drivers for your computer, but also install them correctly, both are automatically and quickly. Once you download this driver update tool, you will find its more powerful features surprisingly.
