Surefire Flashlight
Polymer Furniture For ARs
Though the number of quad and eight rail interface systems available for ARs has burgeoned in the last few years, a lot of users who want the option of lighting systems and lasers etc. don't want the additional weight of a dedicated rail system. These are often carried by individuals who aren't primarily shooters. A lot of people buy an AR carbine because of its handiness and, whilst they might want to put on a flashlight, they really don't want their rifle to look like an orthopaedic aid or constructor set.
The Magpul MOE hand guard offers a light but ergonomic and attractive fiber-reinforced polymer alternative to the USGI handguards on carbine, mid range and full length ARs. It has a trapezoidal cross section and ventilation slots that are reminiscent of the FN FAL. Where the Magpul MOE handguard differs is in the large transverse ribs that help grip the weapon and the lip that runs around the front of the guard to stop the hand from sliding forward onto the hot gas block or barrel. The hand is further protected from heat by an aluminium heat shield. The Magpul MOE handguard has a very low profile upper surface. This means that, as long as the sight can clear the delta ring, it will clear the hand guard - a real problem with some sights. The Eotech 552 and 512 Eotechs for example. The Magpul MOE handguard can take the MOE illumination kit which provides a small section of Picatinny rail in both standard and cantilevered formats and mounting plates for both new and old type Surefire switches. You can also fit any of the three lengths of polymer Picatinny rail at the 2, 6 and 10 o'clock positions to the Magpul MOE handguard using the hardware provided. You can use the 6 o'clock rail to mount a fore grip if required.
The Magpul MOE grip is a fixed configuration of the Magpul MIAD grip and is shaped like the MIAD configured to 'medium' size. It is a very economical and ergonomic replacement for the USGI unit. It is compatible with Magpul MIAD grip cores which provide dry, rattle free storage for a variety of small items. Cores are manufactured to take AA, AAA or CR123 batteries or a spare bolt and firing pin.
The next step up is the Magpul MIAD grip. This is basically an adaptable version of the MOE grip. One nice feature of the Magpul MIAD is that it can be configured with a beavertail to go over the gap between the grip and receiver which is quite pronounced with some receivers. The grip is supplied as a kit and can be fitted with the Magpul MIAD grip cores described above. The polymer used for these accessories enables the manufacturer to offer them in various colours including OD Green, Foliage Green, Dark Earth and Black.
