Spears released these photos in hopes of "highlighting the pressure exerted on women to look perfect". After scandal after scandal, this move can't help the credit repair Britney Spears is trying to take on.

Britney Spears releasing her unretouched Candies campaign photos seem to be a part of a minor trend. Recently, the cover of Marie Claire showed Jessica Simpson without makeup or retouching. Questions about a heavily airbrushed photo of Kimora Lee Simmons were also openly answered. The trend of "revealing" retouching, airbrushing, and generally improving photos does not yet seem to be leading to a reduction in the use of these techniques.
